HYDERABAD: Megha Engineering & Infrastructure (MEIL), which shot into the limelight after it emerged as the second-largest electoral bonds donor at Rs 1,232 crore (directly and through associated companies), has bagged a Rs 12,800-crore engineering, procurement, & construction (EPC) contract from state-owned Nuclear Power Corporation of India.
Hyderabad-based MEIL marked its foray into the nuclear energy space after it outbid heavyweights such as L&T and BHEL to emerge as the lowest bidder (L1) with a bid of Rs 12,800 crore for the construction of 2x700MW electrical reactors at Kaiga project, under the department of atomic energy.
The project has to be completed in 66 months after the letter of award. The Kaiga nuclear power generating station, located in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, has 4x220MW nuclear reactors operational. The setting up of Kaiga 5 and 6 is being seen as a significant milestone in India’s clean energy journey.
